Tutorial: Configuring Integrated SOA Gateway in Oracle E-Business Suite R12.1.3

Steven Chan - Mon, 2018-10-15 11:19

I have being receiving queries about configuring Oracle E-Business Suite Integrated SOA Gateway (ISG). ISG provides REST and SOAP based web service interfaces for public integration APIs registered in Oracle Integration Repository. Here's a quick video that walks through the configuration process:

What is in this tutorial?

In this tutorial, I follow the steps documented in Installing Oracle E-Business Suite Integrated SOA Gateway, Release 12.1.3 (MOS ID 556540.1). This is the main document which lists the required patches and steps to configure EBS R12.1.3 instance for Integrated SOA Gateway.

This tutorial has following major sections:

  • Applying Patches
  • Executing TXK script
  • Enabling ASADMIN user
  • Verifying ISG Setup

This tutorial talks about configuring ISG in single node of EBS R12.1.3. If your EBS R12.1.3 instance is configured with a load balancer, you will be required to perform additional steps mentioned in My Oracle Support Document 1081100.1.

Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.8 Now Available

Steven Chan - Mon, 2018-10-08 15:21

I am pleased to announce that Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.8 is now available.

This update includes several significant functional innovations around customer requests and voting, Enterprise Command Centers, user experience, data privacy standards, accounting standards changes, and automation to help customers move EBS environments to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

For details about the 2018 innovations, see:

Cliff Godwin talks through the latest innovations and what they mean for customers in this video:

Instructions for downloading and applying this latest release update pack (RUP) for the EBS 12.2 codeline can be found here:

What Does Release 12.2.8 Include?

As a consolidated suite-wide patchset, this RUP includes new features, statutory and regulatory updates, and enhancements for stability, performance, and security.

Release 12.2.8 is cumulative. That means that as well as providing new updates for this release, it also includes updates that were originally made available as one-off patches for earlier 12.2 releases.

For a complete list of new features, refer to:

Common Questions and Answers About Upgrading

  • Q: Is there a direct upgrade path from Release 11i to Release 12.2.8?
A: No. Release 11i customers must first upgrade to Release 12.2 before applying 12.2.8.
  • Q: Is there a direct upgrade path from EBS 12.0 to 12.2.8?
A: No. Release 12.0 customers must first upgrade to Release 12.2 before applying 12.2.8.
  • Q: Is there a direct upgrade path from EBS 12.2 to 12.2.8?
  • A: Yes. Release 12.2 customers can apply 12.2.8 directly to their
environments. EBS 12.2.8 is an online patch, so it can be applied while an existing Release 12.2 system is running.

New OA Framework 12.2.6 Update 14 Now Available

Steven Chan - Thu, 2018-10-04 10:31

Web-based content in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 runs on the Oracle Application Framework (also known as OA Framework, OAF, or FWK) user interface libraries and infrastructure.

We periodically release updates to Oracle Application Framework to fix performance, security, and stability issues.

These updates are provided in cumulative Release Update Packs, and cumulative Bundle Patches that can be applied on top of the Release Update Packs. In this context, cumulative means that the latest RUP or Bundle Patch contains everything released earlier.

The latest OAF update for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.6 is now available:

Oracle Application Framework (FWK) Release 12.2.6 Bundle 14 (Patch 28183913:R12.FWK.C)

Where is this update documented?

Instructions for installing this OAF Release Update Pack are in the following My Oracle Support knowledge document:

Who should apply this patch?

All Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.6 users should apply this patch. Future OAF patches for EBS Release 12.2.6 will require this patch as a prerequisite.

What's new in this update?

This bundle patch is cumulative: it includes all fixes released in previous EBS Release 12.2.6 bundle patches.

In addition, this latest bundle patch includes fixes for the following issues:

  • The details of an expanded row are not visible in the viewport area when a table has more than 30 rows.
  • On the iSupport Service Request creation page, the length of the Problem Summary data input field is inadequate.
  • Messages filtered for viruses are not added to the confirmation message in a specific product flow.
  • Validation of required fields is not triggered when a new row is added to a table.
  • With the application session language set to Arabic, in the IE 11 browser a popup does not appear when the Delete button is clicked.

Safari 12 Implications for E-Business Suite Users

Steven Chan - Sun, 2018-09-23 22:21

Customers have been asking about the compatibility of new versions of the following Apple products with Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1 and 12.2:

  •          Safari 12 (works with macOS 10.13.6 and 10.12.6)
  •          macOS Mojave (macOS 10.14)

Neither of these two products have been certified with either EBS 12.1 or EBS 12.2 as of September 18, 2018).

Safari 12 is unable to launch Java in the way that prior Safari versions could. This will prevent E-Business Suite 12.1 and 12.2 customers from running Forms-based products. Therefore, customers should *NOT* upgrade to Safari 12 on macOS desktop platforms.

macOS Mojave (macOS 10.14) will include Safari 12. Customers should *NOT* upgrade to macOS Mojave.

We are aware of the potential impact to E-Business Suite users and are actively pursuing solutions.

What has changed?

Safari 12 introduces an important change: it removes support for “legacy NPAPI plug-ins”. This affects all EBS releases. macOS Mojave includes Safari 12.

Some products within Oracle EBS 12.1 and 12.2 run via HTML in browsers. These are sometimes called “self-service web applications.” These EBS products are expected to run without issue in Safari 12, but our certification testing is still underway.

Some products within Oracle EBS 12.1 and EBS 12.2 use Oracle Forms. Oracle Forms requires Java for desktop clients. On the macOS desktop platform, the only certified option today for launching Java is via the JRE plugin via the NPAPI approach.

This means that Safari 12 and macOS Mojave (macOS 10.4) will be unable to use the current JRE plugin-based launching technology for Java and Forms for EBS desktop users.

Recommendations for EBS customers

As of today, the latest certified versions of these products are:

  • Safari 11 (works with macOS 10.13)
  • macOS High Sierra (macOS 10.13)

EBS customers should use only certified configurations. EBS customers who use Forms-based products should avoid upgrading to Safari 12 or macOS Mojave today.

What’s next for EBS clients on macOS?

We have certified Java Web Start (JWS) for Windows clients accessing EBS 12.1 and 12.2 environments. Java Web Start is an alternative to the JRE plugin approach. Java Web Start works with browsers that lack NPAPI support. For more details about Java Web Start and EBS on Windows, see:

We are working on certifying Java Web Start technology with macOS. Our goal is to provide a solution that allows E-Business Suite users on macOS to continue without any reduction in functionality. Given changes to Safari and Apple’s security model, we are examining options for browsers such as Firefox.

Once again, we are acutely aware of the potential impact to E-Business Suite users and have been working on solutions for macOS for some time.

Oracle’s Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates, but you’re welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I’ll post updates here as soon as soon as they’re available.
