Maybe these definitions wil help, it is simple english words (from Wikipedia):

  • Ordinary high water mark, the highest level reached by a body of water that has been maintained for a sufficient period of time to leave evidence on the landscape
  • Strandline, the high point reached by tides, where debris is deposited
  • High-water mark of the Confederacy, the deepest penetration by the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War
  • High water marks, a term used in hedge funds to determine fund performance fees
